About
Hello fromthe south of Manchester
Coderbase is a small company that runs technical interviews for teams hiring engineers, and builds the platform those teams use to run their own.
Who started it
Andrei Simionescu
Before Coderbase, Andrei spent five years at Karat, where he ran more than 3,000 technical interviews. He has also worked at Metabase and at Coinbase, and as a startup CTO.
He liked interviewing and wanted it done on different terms: interviewers paid well, companies charged less, and the same platform open to a company's own engineers.

How it started
The interviews came before the software
In February 2026 Coderbase started running technical interviews for PayPlan, which was rebuilding its engineering team, and started building the platform the same month. Those first interviews ran on a separate video call and a rented code editor. Both moved onto the platform over the following months, and by early July a PayPlan interview ran on Coderbase from start to finish.
From 20 February to July, Coderbase ran 60 interviews for PayPlan across nine role profiles, and PayPlan made 25 hires. The PayPlan story has the details.
The interviewers
Who runs the interviews
Our founding interviewers are Karat alumni, each with more than ten years in the industry and more than a thousand interviews behind them. We pay them the best interviewer rates in the business and raise those rates with inflation, which keeps experienced people with us. The interviewer who runs a session makes every judgment in the report and signs it.
The company
The small print
Coderbase is a trading name of SMNSCU Ltd, a company registered in England. We're small enough that whoever reads your email may well have written the code it's about.
